ScotPoll launches with a fun survey of Scotland’s favourite sayings – and lands a front page piece in the Herald and page leads in the Sun, Star, Record, Express and Mail.

Our poll of 579 Scots found that their favourite word is aye, followed by crabbit, blether and peely wally.

And a resounding 95 per cent are proud of their heritage and love using terms such as “yer aff yer heid(you’re off your head) and “haud yer wheesht” (be quiet).

Favourite phrases were influenced by TV stars, with “gonnae no dae that” (please don’t do that) – made famous in Chewin’ the Fat - coming top.

Gie it laldy”, much loved by comedian Kevin Bridges, made it to sixth.

Other popular phrases included “it’s a dreich day” in third and “lang may yer lum reek” – or long may your chimney smoke – in 16th.
