We polled 1,000 Scots and asked them about their experiences using Scottish currency outside of Scotland. Our survey found that 7 in 10 have had their cash rejected in England.

More than 50% were told that their Scottish notes were not legal tender – with London the most common place for Scottish notes to be refused, followed by Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle.

The misconception that Scottish currency is not valid outside of Scotland is not unique to England – the ScotPoll survey found that one in ten have had their Scottish currency refused at a bureau de change – with Spain and France the most likely countries to reject the money.
